casper david friedrich zentrum greifswald. 2024 (with brandstifter)
The interdisciplinary performance artist Brandstifter stands in front of the canvas set on an easel, performing as a tableau vivant the situation of G. F. Kersting’s Berlin painting ‘Caspar David Friedrich in his studio . This is accompanied by ‘Caspar David Friedrich im Künstler Gut Loitz – Vergangenheit, Gegenwart, Zukunft’, a piece of music which Brandstifter composed for this occasion based on the fundamental notes C major, D major, Fmajor – from the painter’s initials – and G major – from Künstler Gut Loitz.
Brandstifter’s fictitious text about Friedrich’s artistic activities with his uncle at the Künstler Gut Loitz connects the two neighbouring locations and the artists involved in the project with the legendary early Romantic painter in an inspiring way. At the same time, light draughtswoman Nikola Dicke encourages visitors to actively participate. The audience’s notations drawn on glass plates are projected onto the walls of the room by overhead projectors. In this way, the invisible brainstorming in the head of the painter Caspar David Friedrich, alias the performance artist, is passed on by the ideas of the participating audience and manifested within a shared, space-filling creative process.
