Almost true story.

Animated film projection based on colored drawings in carbon black on glass, variable size, 2022.

An astronaut floats over the black wall opposite the museum entrance and disappears into a UFO that lands on a glowing planet. More planets appear, start a wild dance and seem to collide with each other. A juggler sets the planets in motion and holds them in the air with playful ease. A yellow ball of cloth reveals a white clown blowing soap bubbles into the air. He himself is enclosed in a bubble.
Shrouded in darkness, passers-by encounter the figures and situations that have been breathed with a light stroke onto small-format, soot-blackened glass and then animated with the computer.

“Almost true story” is based on the motif of the soap-blowing clown, which Nikola Dicke drew in 2011 for the town hall of Gennep, Goch’s Dutch neighboring town, and further developed into the ‘Enlightened Flying Circus’ with ten stations with static projections and living acrobats for the International Light Festival in Jerusalem in 2012:

“Nikola Dicke has been consistently praised for her innovative, philosophical and inspirational artwork. And in Jerusalem expect no different! Lining the walls of the Christian Quarter, the German artist’s artwork tells a story of a circus, projecting images of acrobats, clowning and juggling.” (Time out Israel 6/6/2012)

For Goch, the drawings themselves now come to life. Scenes in the air, in the water and on the ground emerge from each other in a loop and spin the passers-by into their dreamy-fantastic, thoughtful atmosphere.
