Children find a borderless world within themselves and create their own paradise

Imagine that life on earth is a paradise.

How do you live then? What does your environment look like?

What gives you security? What inspires you?

With these questions, pupils from 2020 to 2022 approached the topic of paradise. The focus was not on theoretical reflection about these questions, but on creative action with each other and with the artistic material. Through artistic research, the young people discovered new materials and techniques, such as drawing with pastel crayons, building objects and scenes from waste materials, and stop-motion animation. Even more important was the experience that inspiration develops in the confrontation with artistic material and with other people who can give motivation and security. And the insight that perseverance is worth it! Originally planned as a cross-border art project within the framework of the Euregio programme taNDem art education and funded by it, “Roots and wings” took place in at the GidW in classes 7b and 7e via video tutorials, emails and the online learning platform – not only in German, so that the young people also got to know the Dutch language in a playful way.

In 2021, the Groep 7 of the Juliana School in Winterswijk and the 5c of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium joined in. In 2022, 7a and 7d at GidW again worked on the project very intensively and made possible an exhibition with all the results.
