Participatory art project in six parishes along the pilgrimage route Loccum-Volkenroda, 2015
On the occasion of the 10 year anniversary of the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrim trail, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover tendered a project grant under the title „Art on a pilgrimage“. It was awarded to my project „Wohl denen, die da wandeln“ („Blessed are those who walk“) and I travelled the route through the six regions from May to October 2015. My aim was to collect songs sung by pilgrims while walking or during services, or heard from pilgrims by residents. I was inspired by those songs to create light drawings at the next station which connected notes, texts or representational drawings with the song. Pilgrims and residents sang the song I brought along with their own favourites, began conversations with each other and were invited to actively participate in the development of the light drawings. That way a trail of light developed over those six months which invited marvel and song. The title song „Wohl denen, die da wandeln“ („Blessed are those who
walk“) formed the content of the light drawing visible on the right of the western facade of the church in Bursfelde, where the project was presented to pilgrims and the interested public in May 2015 within the framework of a pilgrimage for the 10 year anniversary.
With kind support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover, the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrim trail and the Monastic Chamber Hanover.
