Come on Baby, light my heimat.
lost & found & light. bingen. 2018. (with brandstifter)
The term ‘Heimat’ has a very special meaning with many different and contradictory interpretations in Germany. Other nations, such as the Dutch, do not have this word in their vocabulary. ‘Home is a spiritual feeling of roots’ is the title of a protest film against lignite mining around Garzweiler, where entire villages have to make way for lignite excavators and are rebuilt elsewhere. The term is very subjective and individual. To many people it seems that only when you no longer have it that the lost home seems to become tangible in its meaning…
The light artist Nikola Dicke and the performance artist Brandstifter will illuminate the homes of people by projecting found pieces of paper onto the city’s architecture at night, making them visible and usable as a projection surface. Visitors and passers-by are invited to participate directly in this process of finding and redesigning a home by reproducing spontaneous impressions and emotions on overhead transparencies and prepared glass plates.
