The light and sound installation ‘Wandelndes Licht’ (Changing Light) created for the Weser Festival 2022 refers to a centuries-old monastic tradition. Even the early Christians gathered regularly in the morning and evening for prayer. The resulting tradition of daily prayers is still practised in many monasteries today. In the rhythm of the day, they allow people to pause and become aware of what is special about the different parts of the day.
For three weeks of the exhibition, the nuns’ crypt of the Lippoldsberg monastery church will be an artistic gateway in which the special features of the times of day will be condensed through light and sound projections. Slow changes in the soft transition from darkness to morning light, clear contrasts in the bright light of midday and a gently darkening evening atmosphere go hand in hand with the sounds of traditional hymns that have been sung for centuries.
